How It Works

The Four Stages of a Dental Implant

Short answer: placing the titanium post takes about 30 to 60 minutes, then the jawbone needs about 3 to 6 months to fuse to it (osseointegration) before the final crown goes on — here’s what each stage looks like.

Educational diagram of the four stages of a single dental-implant treatment. It illustrates the general process only — not a specific patient, and not a guarantee of results.
  1. Stage 1: Gap in the arch. The missing tooth and the prepared site, before treatment begins.

  2. Stage 2: Titanium post placed. The surgeon seats a titanium implant post in the jawbone. About 30–60 minutes for a single implant.

  3. Stage 3: Osseointegration. The jawbone gradually fuses to the post, anchoring it in place. Commonly about 3 to 6 months.

  4. Stage 4: Abutment + crown. A custom abutment and crown complete the tooth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Most adults with one or more missing teeth and reasonable overall health are candidates. If you’ve lost bone, a bone graft or sinus lift can rebuild the foundation. The only way to know for sure is a quick exam and 3D scan — which is part of your free consultation.

How long does the implant process take?

The implant placement itself takes about an hour. Healing (osseointegration) typically takes 3–6 months before the final crown, though same-day options exist for qualifying patients.

How much do implants cost in Houston?

Single implants generally run $3,000–$5,500; full-arch solutions cost more. We give you an exact, itemized quote and financing options at your visit.
